“The State of the Market”

The annual “State of the Market” Forum brings together three of the Markets key “movers and shakers” representing the Lloyd’s, Company market and the broking sectors and is always one of our most popular iNED events. As it can be a challenge for NEDs who are not working day to day in an executive role to stay abreast of market developments, the assessment of these three industry leaders as to where we are as we approach the January renewal season is sure to be of considerable interest. We face the challenges of inflation and global recession against the backdrop of the continuing conflict in Ukraine and in the aftermath of probably the largest natural catastrophe loss ever experienced.

As always, we have asked our speakers Lorraine Harfitt, Steve McGill and Phil Hobbs to interpret the brief widely to embrace any and all developments they believe will impact and shape the London market in the years ahead. These could be at the macro level as economies struggle to recover from the pandemic, international and UK changes post Brexit, industry initiatives to improve competitiveness, underwriting results, lower operating costs, embrace the use of new technologies, the outlook for trading conditions over the forthcoming renewal season, regulatory priorities, ESG, diversity & inclusion etc. etc.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Identify the key issues and challenges confronting London Market participants for 2023 and beyond as reflected in the views of the three industry leaders.

Describe the progress being made by London Market participants on improving underwriting results, reducing operating costs and enhancing the market’s competitiveness.

Describe the changing shape of the broking sector

Explain the progress being made in market modernisation and other initiatives to improve market access.

Summarise the current trading environment and challenges as we face as we head into 2023
