Technology/Digitisation topic

16:00 - 17:30
Online event

The digitisation of insurance businesses and markets is becoming all pervasive and pace of the change is accelerating.

As iNEDs we all have an accountability to understand and scrutinise large scale spend that will ultimately transform many of our business models as well as our technology landscape.

Board members increasingly need to be comfortable assessing the associated risks and to do that they need to be equipped with an appropriate level of knowledge. The majority of iNEDs are not technologists and we have therefore designed this short event to provide an overview of what to look for, what questions to ask, how to identify potential problems and how to benefit from shared experiences of others.

Learning objectives

The specific objectives of the workshop Are as follows:

• To recognise and explain the key aspects of frequently used terminology (eg, journey to cloud, platform as a service, agile ways of working, open architecture, partner ecosystems )

• To understand and probe the range of programme risks across the end to end lifecycle ( eg business case, governance, estimation, development, testing, stabilisation)

• To assimilate the lessons from ‘war stories’ (problems and corrective actions) and relate them to personal business situations to achieve desired outcomes

• To appreciate and extrapolate implications for Board composition, including new roles and capabilities

This iNED Forum is open to insurance Non-executive Directors (iNEDS), aspiring iNEDS, Company Secretaries, Compliance staff and all those involved with corporate governance, underwriting, broking and risk management in the insurance sector.

There is no requirement for delegates to be members of the Worshipful Company of Insurers.
